barn find
barn find
Hi my names Richard, I'm from Australia and I'm in the process of buying a '76 750ss wreck for restoration. The bike is in pretty bad shape and has sat for over 20 years, alot of parts broken, some missing, so a lot to do.....
Re: barn find
Dont just leave it there, any pics of it.Be good to see it in the raw state.Speaking of states, where in OZ are you.

Re: barn find
Thanks for your interest, I'm in north Queensland and although I haven't got my hands on it yet, the owner has indicated he will sell it to me but the deal is through a third party and is dragging out, when (hopefully) I take ownership I'll definately post some pics. Its been down hard on the right hand side, the crankcase is cracked at the front and back where it bolts to the frame and around the front sprocket/ kickstart area, and it's also flipped and broken the clutch cover. So... what I need to know is how much matching frame and case numbers are worth so I know at what point I'm throwing money away when it comes to repair vs replace the cases. Any and all opinions welcome.
Re: barn find
G'day Rick,
Sounds like a great find if the deal comes off. Very rare to hear of a 750SS barnfind these days, damaged or not !
Regarding the cases, the correct ones are worth their weight in gold. The cases can be repaired dependant upon how much damage has occured, but even if you do need to replace them, hang on to the original ones as proof of the bikes authenticity.
Ducati Frame and Engine numbers do not match anyway, but should be within close proximity to be correct.
May not be important to you now, but "sure" will be to the prospective buyer if you ever decide to sell.
Oh, and I assume you have done some checking to make sure the bike is an original SS and not a bitsa. plenty of them around,
Good luck with the deal,
Cheers Rick from Vic.

Thanks for the advice rwhc80, the bike is mine now for better or for worse I'm not sure....
As I said, the bike has alot of damage but definitely a cross over gearchange model and by robert miller's list I make it to be a 76 model, as for originality I know the bike was purchased new on the Gold Coast, Qld by the previous owner and being a local bike hopefully I can find out the year and maybe the dealer.
