I have an '82 900S2, it has a crack in the crank case that I'm about to get welded, has anyone any idea as to the composition of the alloy in these (silicon, magnesium content)?
I'd like to help the engine shop out in there selection of tig wire, if I can.
thanks
crank case alloy composition
just a note about the advise given to gregh. I work with aluminium and the 6061 grade he was advised is a grade used for "wrought" products. i.e. extrusions or forgings. Casting grades normally have silicon added to lower the viscosity of the alloy when molten which allows them to flow into a mould more easily. this additive is absent in 6061....
For future reference, I am sure I have the information somewhere so will add it at a later date
