Clutch Problem on 900S2

Please can anyone help me? I am a bevel owner with 30 years experience, but this one has me licked.
I have owned my 900S2 from new and it has suffered from a clutch that is reluctant to free all of this time. The bike has no kickstart fitted, so the only way to free the plates is to put the bike in gear and rock it with the clutch lifted until it frees. However it still stalls when put into gear. When riding along, if the clutch is lifted it does not want to free, just keeps driving the bike. however, once freed there is no sign of drag.
I have done just about everything - lapped the plates, shimmed the springs, lapped the housing. I tried a set of surflex lightweight plates, but with these the clutch refused to free at all - explain that! The plates appear to be glued together. The only time the clutch works is if I remove all the plates. wash them in kerosine and reoil them, then all is well for a few miles until the problem returns. Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Thank you,

Desmor

Have you ever run synthetic oil then added or switched to dinosaur oil? If YES then replace the fiber plates and problem solved.

I would just replace them anyways, and run straight 50 weight dino oil, changed every 1000 miles

Hi Steve, thanks for the reply.

I have always run the bike on SAE 50, so I don't think this is the cause.

Thanks,

The problem is, I've already tried this when I fitted the Surflex lightweight kit, and the clutch would not work at all. My suspicion is that the problem is to do with the lack of kickstart. I feel that when the plates are freed on a cold engine by kicking the engine with the clutch lifted, the plates are 'washed' by clean engine oil, whereas mine do not get this treatment and a gum is building up sticking the plates.

Thanks,

I own 2 of the SSD Darmahs, both have no kick starter - electric start only. I don;t have this problem. I have the sureflex 'improved' clutch kits in both. You might not have your clutch adjusted correctly then. Read the CLUTCH ROD thread on this site and compare notes...

Thanks. At least this disproves my theory.
