I am interested in knowing if there is a serial number breakpoint that will determine that my engine is "early" or ("not early?"). The word "early" comes up once in a while in forum, and I am enough of a novice that I do not know when I should pay attention to the notation.

The engine serial number is 851539,
and the frame serial number is 851538.

I do not know if this difference is typical or not. I have owned the bike since I purchased it new (got it at Atlas Cycles in Tulsa, Oklahoma, now closed for business).

Any enlightenment would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what early or late means but according to my 860GT workshop manual the alternator changed from 150 to 200 watts at engine number 851684. There was also a changed engine stop relay at the same engine number with the date given as 20 May, 1975.

That info goes a long way. I shall map my engine's S/N to the alternator and engine stop relay herein, and see if my scooter is free of "mischief".
