Crankcase/barrel dowels

Post by ducksandhogs »

Any one else found no dowels in the holes in the crankcase and no corresponding holes in the bottom of the barrels for them anyway?
Looks like the original GT's had no dowels at all, but mine is an SD and I'm wondering how worried I should be...

I wouldn't worry at all. The sleeve fit in the spigot is close enough that things can't get too far out of line and the studs center things up when tightened.

Yeah you're right, except that there's enough clearance on the stud holes for the barrel to rotate left and right a bit which was worrying me. I loosened off the heads though and tried rotating the crank back and forth and it does all seem to self centralize pretty well so until the next dismantle...Still interested to hear from anyone else if this is not an uncommon thing.
