Kickstart Lever Repair

Post by abmartin »

I knew it was just a matter of time before the lever broke through its stop on my '79 SS and it finally happened. I'll probably get a new one but in the meantime I may be able to build up the stop.

Does anyone know how to remove the split pin holding the lever portion of the assembly onto the fixed portion attached to the starter output shaft? Does it just knock out with an appropriate sized drift?

Bruce,

Your guess is spot on the money. The pin is called a roll pin and simply taps out with an appropriate pin punch or similar.
If you happen to need a new pin they are easily obtained at a bolt shop or bearing supplies.
