Frame Number Missing

Does anybody know of instances where Ducati failed to number a frame? I ask because I just purchased a project bike, an 860 which has an engine number but supposedly no frame number. It also appears on Robert Miller's list in that way. I've emailed Robert.

Possibly a replacment frame was installed and the installer neglected to re stamp the number.

That would imply quite major accident damage

Well yeah, but apart from the forks and swingarm what would it matter? If the frame was bent it was replaced rather than repaired. No problem with that in my eyes.

What do you mean "supposedly no frame number" ? Sounds like you don't even have the bike yet. Once you get it and look at the frame yourself, let us know what you find (or don't find).

Yes that's true. I have bought it from abroad so not had a chance to take a proper look. Will let you know when this has happened. Had some help meantime from Robert Miller who has provided some very useful info.

You can stamp it in yourself, it's easy.
I did the same when I upgraded to a brandnew 900SS Verlicchi frame to replace the weak original Mille frame...!

Yes but you need a number in the first place!
