860GT (kickstart) Electronic Ignition Options

Post by swooshdave »

From what I understand there is currently only one replacement electronic ignition option for the 860GT (kickstart) Ducati Elettronica ignition and that's the Elektronik-Sachse.

At around US$500 it's not exactly cheap but only in comparison to the huge number of point replacement models out there. And it comes with 9 maps, is there a consensus as to which map to use?

Of course the RITA is no longer made. And sticking something with the Lucas name on it to make it better... is just wrong.

Are there any others?

Using the Sachse system will also benifit your crankshaft because of the real advance curve instead of a 20deg. jump all at once around 1200rpm.
While pretty reliable the Rita system is nowhere near as advanced as the Sachse arrangement and it would require you cut or remove the right side panel to install.

I found one other option but I don't know how readily available it is. Apparently uses Monster parts.

The Sachse unit for a kick start model requires the removal of the flywheel, this affects the ability to idle at low revs.

Ran my 750 bevel for years without a flywheel with no idle problems. There seems to be plenty of mass in the crankshaft without it.

Hi Zemole,

How has the new ignition been working for you? Any issues while trouble shooting?

Yes, we went with the Sachse.

Clutch and flywheel off. Not sure what to do next. The wire gland that came with the kit is the wrong size. Do you just cut the old ignition wires? I don't see any other way to get them out.

Dave, pull each individual wire out of the molex connector after marking which goes where. Then pull wires out of gland assembly.
