Shaun,
What exactly did you replace ? all of the plates in the clutch pack, or just friction plates ? and either of the clutch drums ?

Also, did you replace with a standard set, or the alloy performance plate kit ??

Might give us more of a clue ???

replaced all clutch plates frictions and steels, I was sold a performace clutch and was assured I will never have clutch slipping problems this is true the clutch holds well but the growl at take off is concerning. I did not remove or do anything to the inner or outer clutch basket

cheers

Shaun,

I've had more clutch problems than you can poke a stick at, but not a growling one. I to, have a alloy performance clutch, which I fitted after several attemps to stop slippage. Only problem is now, the bike wants to move forward when cold, even with clutch lever fully retracted. Tried adjusting to no avail, so I've put it down to the 50 weight castrol I run, although it didn't do it with the standard clutch.

I think if it were me, I would drop the cover off again to have a look at the fitment. just to make sure all the springs are done up tight, also check the inner and outer bent tangs are the right way. should be some residual oil in the cover when removed. but if all looks OK,??? maybe it's just a bedding in problem.

Hopefully someone else can give some thoughts as well
Cheers

Thanks Rick

Have you tried swapping your clutch springs around,as I was informed when I fitted my clutch that the springs may have slightly different strengths and you need to swap them around to make sure that your clutch plates open up evenly and not at angle.I know with my old clutch it was almost impossible to find neutral and when cold always wanted to move forward, but now have put in new clutch and arranged springs so it opens evenly neutral is easy to find and the bike doesn't move when cold

Not sure if this is your problem but may help

Thanks for the tip Shaun,

I'll give that a go, cause it's also bloody difficult to locate neutral if the bikes stopped. I think I had just accepted that neutral needs to be located before stopping. At one stage with the old clutch, I even tried 32mm long die springs. It sure as hell stopped the slipping but made for a heavy lever.

Was a mongrel to ride in traffic if you got stuck at the lights in gear.

Had brand new springs with the alloy clutch, so I didn't consider they may release at differing pressures.

Cheers
Rick

back in the day I fixed my 1977 900SS slipping clutch problem by replacing every second spring with a 450 spring. Gave me a strong L hand but it didn't slip.

I had a terrible clutch-drag problem with my 750 GT and solved by taking all the steel plates an wet sanding them to perfect flatness on plate glass. It took forever, but did the trick.
