1955 MM 250 SOHC works long distance racer

Post by Roger Moss »

One of five works machines made for 55 season Milan Tarranto, circuit De Cattolica. 250cc SOHC 9500rpm 108mph. Made with big flywheels for these 1000 mile non stop flat out road races. (The bike equivalent to the Mille Mille) All such racing on the Italian public roads with the spectators standing on the sidewalks were stopped in 1957, following the deaths when a Mercedes Benz was launched into the crowd.
Moto MM was in production from early 20's till 1957.
Alfonse Morini was a partner and race rider till 1937 when he left to start his own company.
It was in a poor mechanical state when I got it, but made everything to fix it as no spares were available.
I do love good engineering!
Kind Regards
