350 tuning problems

HI - my first posting
i've got a barn find 350 that i'm trying to get going,
stock DelOrto carb, points & condenser igntion.

the story is that it's last ride it 'seized' - the tach drive off of the top end
seemed to have exploded - there was some shredded teet off of the drive in the
top end gear cover - the detritus was luckily all from the tach drive
i cleaned that out - cleaned up the carb, ignition , new battery .
it'll start - eventually. hold an idle , rough, - but doesnt seem to be able to accelerate
under it's own steam when under load .
i'm wondering if the tach drive explosion caused a jumped tooth somewhere in the timing
gear chain ?
or - should i be looking elsewhere ?
is the Amal carb conversion worth the effort ?
is there a good source for parts in North America ? Canada preferably ?
thanks in advance for any comments - thoughts - ideas

Should be easy enough :
Take the plug out
Take the upper cover off (don't lose the small connector between camshaft and tacho drive)
Take the righthandcover off and You'll see markings (dots) on the bevels.
Keep turning the engine over 'till they align (at TDC)
The markings on the cylinderhead-bevels are more difficult to see but now they too should align.
As do the markings on the gear of the oilpump (drive to the ignition shaft)
Check (by turning the engine a bit more forward or backwards) to see if the gear are still shimmed correctly : there should be a grinded flat spot
