Torque specs?

Post by Jholeman » Sun Dec 06, 2015 1:53 pm

Looking for torque specs. I'm working on a mark 3 250 and have a manual but after installing the flywheel I do not see any torque value in the manual. I was expecting a table like a lot of manuals have. Is there a go to place to get all of the torque specs?

Thanks,

Jeff

Ah! Welcome to the 1960s, Jeff ... :-D .

Actually, there is a value given in the manual*: 8.3 - 9.7 Kgm. Or 60 - 70 lb/ft, if you prefer.

* Pg 81.

Right down the bottom ... (and called the "driving shaft nut").

No reason not to Loctite it as well, if you're feeling nervous ... ;)

Torque specs I've always used on a 1968 MK3.

Head Bolts -25 ft/lb
Clutch Centre - 65 ft/lb
Bevel Gears - 35 ft/lb
Crank Drive Gear - 75 ft/lb

The engine on my bike has been apart numerous times as it's only used for racing.

Thanks for those, Robin. Useful -*!^- .

(For the clutch centre, I have tended to use the value given in the 860 manual which is slightly lower than yours at 7kgm = 50lb/ft. The Clymer singles manual quotes the same, i.e. 700-850 inch/pounds*, altho' I don't know where they got that from. Probably simply got their nuts mixed up, crank and clutch centre ... :roll: . But, in any event, you're probably wise to err on the side of caution ... :-D )

* Incorrectly labeled as "ft-lbs". Now that would be tight ... :shock:
