WIDECASE GEARBOX SET UP
Can anyone offer some advice about shimming the geabox on a widecase single? I've replaced all the bearings in the crankcases and the original combination of shims at the ends of the shafts doesn't work anymore. I can no longer get neutral and 5th feels much harder to rotate when the engine bolts are even slightly tight. Is there some method rather than rial and error of swapping shims about?
gearbox shimming
Hi Andrew
when i shim my gearbox i leave the crank out so i can look if the gears
engage all the way and if the gears line up esspecially 4th gear
i use a small flashlight to look into the crankcase
put on the front sprocket to pull the layshaft all the way in the bearing
and put on the cluch or a piece of pipe to pull the mainshaft into the
bearing . another thing , make a small radius on the 2 mm shim next
to first gear on the inputshaft . there is a radius on the shaft and not
on the shim so in time the cluch hub can come lose
sometimes the selector forks get to thin and you have to replace them
Good Luck Eldert
