Narrow Case Magneto/Alternator identification

Post by elmofongo »

Greetings,

I am trying to identify what type of alternator my narrow case 250 is equipped with. I finally took the flywheel off and found 2 coils on the stator. So I think this is the 6V/40W magneto system. However I expected a 3-wire cable to come out. Instead, it seems to only have 2 wires are coming out. The third "pole" appears to be soldered to the chassis at the stator (see photo).
Is this the normal wiring? Or has this magneto been modified?
Am I supposed to use one wire for the ignition, and the other for the lights/horn?

Thanks

-Adrian
