Timing tool for 500 GTL

Post by farmer fred »

A buddy is resurrecting a 76? Ducati 500 GTL and the manual shows a special tool that attaches to the crank through a removable threaded plug, and a removable pointer, both necessary to set the timing with a timing light.

This model has points.

Is this a tool that is available, or is there a work-around?

Thanks for any help.

I also have a 500 GTL. It is perfect. Let me know if you find any tools available. I will buy also. In addition, I will email you if I find some so you
can buy if you wish.

Let me know if you see any parts bikes.

Thanks

You can do a static timing without the use of a light. The procedure is described in the GTL Workshop Manual here on Steve's site. Go to: Vintage Forun/Technical Info/Manuals Index, and scroll down to GTL manuals. See pages 8-10 for the procedure.

I have all three GTL manuals on CD. If you would like a copy, send me your mailing address.
Good Luck!

You will find that trying to adjust the points using a strobe light and disc timing device can be...trying.
