'73 GT speedo drive problem

Post by tomb7949 »

I broke the speedo drive washer that is located between the fork and speed drive. I tried replacing it with a washer with a 19 mm hole that seems to fit correctly over the axle diameter but smaller that the stopped shoulder of the axle. After I have assembled the wheel and push the bike, I notice that the speed drive rotates with the wheel. The first time I did it, I had the speedo cable attached. Before I realized what was happening, I had destroyed the speedo cable housing. Any ideas on how to fix this problem?
FYI, I have the marzochi leading axle forks.

Since you are in there, i suggest that you soak your speedo drive in diesel for several days taking it out to spin often, keep doing so until it goes freely. Then stand upright and let sit until nothing comes out again spinning frequently. Once it stops dripping lube and install.

Thanks Steve.

Could you recommend a grease to use?

I will order some in my next order unless you can add some to my last order from you.

I think that we are going to have a long customer/vendor relationship. Looking forward to it.
