Jack/lift for single?

Post by jsevy »

Does anyone have any experiences with or recommendations for jacks for singles (1969 350 Scrambler in my case)? I'm doing restoration, and need to do tire and wheel work, and don't have a centerstand on the bike. I'm wondering about using one of the available motorcycle jacks, but am a little concerned considering that there are no frame tubes under the engine to jack on (since the engine is a stressed frame member itself). Is it OK to use a motorcycle jack lifting on the engine casing?
Thanks,

It is indeed OK to support your bike from the engine cases which are quite sturdy. If your are handy with some basic carpentry you can make up a simlpe stand out of some plywood and 2x4's. Seems like somebody built one and posted a pic but I can't find it.
