750GT rebuilt carbs, runs only on choke

Post by Desmo-Kid »

I tried to post this message once, don't know where it went!

Just rebuil the PHF's, but it will only run on choke.....spits, coughs, backfires through carbs when choke is off. Goes way lean.

Jetting is per Ducati restoration guide.

Both carbs getting fuel.

New fuel.

Floats set per Dellorto guide.

Needles in mid position per restoration guide.

Can worn carbs cause this?

Thanks!

Have also spent some considerable time setting up carbs , but found that the overhead gear must be right. Make sure the valve clearences are all to spec.

Are you suggesting valve timing could be causing this?

I've checked the clearances, they are fine.

Can a valve problem also cause this?

worry about the carbs first

I should not be allowed to give anyone carb advice, but, stupid question first, did you balance the carbs, if not check steve's balancing advice. If you did do you have any air leaks, check Steve's advice on finding these.

Rebuilding the carbs won't do any good if you don't soak them in lacquer thinner for a half hour or so and then blow all the passageways out with compressed air.
Sounds like the low/mid range jetting circuit is plugged up.
From probably the only person in the world who rides a Ducati 350 Sebring for daily transportation.
