carbys? what are available?

Post by Colin Linz »

I've been thinking of changing my 32mm carbs for 36 or 40mm ones. Anyone like to offer recomendations? I thought I saw some 36mm ones on Steve's site a while ago,but have not been able to find them lately. I have a 900gts done up as an ss, but still with the conventional valve heads. I mainly use it on open roads.
Cheers

PHF

Hi Colin, I can get the PHF 36mm carbies no problem. I took them off my site because the sets i had in stock sold and I have not bought a set for stock since. it is a big expense to have on the shelf for a long time. If you want a pair, no worries, email me off list or call me to discuss. 40s are a bit different to deal with, you must get different manifolds which are hard to find. I have some used carbs, which I have soda blasted and are ready for rebuild. The sets I have already finished and sold got EVERYTHING replaced except for of course the carb body, top cap and float bowl. They looked great. I have several sets that i have blasted but have not rebuilt yet of PHF 32, PHF36 and PHM 40. It will be cheaper for you to get a new set of carbs - the new style - but more authentic to restore a set of old style carbs, it is your choice.

Steve,

Thanks for the quick response Steve. I have tried emailing you but I keep getting an error message, I cut and pasted your address from your web site so I don’t know what is happening. Could you PM me with prices for new and second hand carbys, if I go to 40mm ones I will need cables and throttle. I think the engine I’m using has the larger manifolds, so they should be OK. Do the trumpets that you sell have air filters in them, or is it a just gauze screen?

Do you think there is any benefit in fitting Desmo heads, I have a set on another engine, but the ports are smaller than those on my GTS with springer heads, so they will need some work to open them up. My spare engine only runs 30mm carbys for some reason?
Cheers

eMail woes

Post by BevHevSteve »

Hi Colin, last night my ISP did some sort of upgrade and shut down for most of the late evening. So my email as well as my website went bye bye for a bit. It is now up and running once more.

For new Dellorto carbs:

http://www.bevelheaven.com/stuff-for-sale-phf.htm

For old carbs, you need to decide if you just want a used set rebuilt or a used set restored as the prices vary HUGE between the 2. On my restored carbs, I have replaced EVERYTHING on the carb except the carb body, top cap and float bowl which have been cleaned and soda blasted.

On the cleaned and rebuilt cabs, I just clean and replace seals, slides, maybe needles, float needle valves, acc pump or ehat that particular carb actually needs.

New carbs [new style PHF or PHM] are $460 per pair. Rebuilt old style original 70s carbs run between around 400 and 800 ish depending on what I do to them. It is a time and parts thing that sets the price. To see what my restored carbies look like click

The photos below don;t really do these carbs justice - they look like a million bucks holding them in your hand....

Sorry to post this so late, I've been away in Porsche land for a bit, but if I'm not mistaken, that's my SSI in the bottom pic. Steve's right, the pics don't do it justice. Soon, the rest of my bike will look as good. All that's left is the engine.

Mikuni bolt ons for 75 GT 860?

Post by econklin »

Hi everyone. Last year I gave up fooling around and spending money and down time hours on my Norton Commando's Amals and went to a bolt-on Mikuni. What a difference! The old Commando went from cantankerous and reluctant to frisky and sweet. So I'm a Mikuni fan. Is there a bolt-on Mikuni kit for the 860 that anyone is aware of?
