Gas tank problem

Post by GT Pete »

I just picked up a 1972 350 Scrambler. ( see picture in the gallery ) One of the petcocks was missing and replaced with a bolt. The petcocks were originally 12 mm but the bolt was 1/2"- 13. Is there a way to fix this? Or can I find a 1/2"-13 petcock?

maybe drill it, and use a product called TIME SERT to repair back to 12mm - I know of no 1/2" taps. Maybe pingle or something for american bikes????

Is there room to put in a timesert? The tube is only about 5/8" OD.

I got fed up with playing with taps and have drilled out and retapped to take 1/4 bsp taps which are easily found, not orriginal but it worked for me. Drilling the tank was not easy, swarf , petrol vapour and accuracy were all issues.
