Dellorto 32 mm lever choke starting problems

Hello there,

I have browsed through the forum to find a possible solution for
my problem but to no avail.

I own a 76 860 GT cafe racer and I have removed the cable
choke to replace it with a lever choke.
The carbs are 32 mm PHF.

Here's my problem:
With the chokes activated the engine starts with the first kick.
Howeverr, it immediately revs up to about 3500 rpm which
isn't too healthy for it, I guess.

I checked if the lever chokes are correct for the PHF, they are.

Any help would be welcome.

Cheers and kind regards

the lever alone shouldn't cause such a dramatic rise but who knows...... Anyways, please try it again but this time only flip 1 of the levers to start the engine... Keep in mind that as soon as the engine starts you should flip the lever[s] back down and hold the throttle a bit to keep the revvs up.

I think your carbs need to be cleaned out and rebuilt more than anything.

Dear Steve,

Thanks a lot for the reply.

I did clean the carbs and installed new
seals before.

Never had that with the cable chokes, maybe
because they can be adjusted.

However, using only one choke does the trick.

Restored my bike after having it standing in the
cellar for 20 years, will post pics soon.

Thanks and kind regards from Germany

My 750 GT with 32s and the lever enrichers does the same thing. Carbs were completely rebuilt already. The thing is that when cold my bike doesn't like to start with only one lever up. Well, it starts, but only on one cylinder!

It's also a royal PITA to get to the rear carb's lever... I'm likely going to come up with another set up someday, for now I pull the sidecover the first time I start it, then only use the front one as long as the engine's not stone cold.

My TL 600 Pantah revs to 4000 with the flip up choke on,it ativates both carbs at the same time,I flip it off straight away.

Something I forgot !

Dear all,

thanks for your kind attention.
One thing I forgot: Once the engine is
warm and I start it with the chokes activated,
it only revs up to about 2000 rpm and does it without
leaving black smoke from the Contis. Strange ....

Kind regards
