Anybody know where one can purchase a set of vacuum gauges that work properly on these old girls??

I have recently purchased a set of Davida vacume gauges (www.davida.co.uk). Have not yet needed them on the Ducati but work great on the CB400/4.

I am guessing the Ducati have a similar set up (small threaded hole in the inlet manifold plugged with a screw) but would have to check.

gauges really don;t work right on a twin [ducati]. I have a set of big bucks HONDA vacuum gauges and the pulses are so strong, the needle bounces around so much it is just impossible to get a good or even decent reading. Motion Pro makes CARB STIX MERCURY TUBES but they have mercury and are BAD NEWS to use any longer now that we know better. Motion Pro is in the process of making a new version that doesn;t have mercury, but they have not been released yet. I have an outstanding order for them once available... Hopefully end of June

In the past I have tried to balance the carbs using a Twin Max gauge, but, as Steve said, with the 900 engine I could not get a clear reading with the needles flickering back and forth so erratically. I now use Motion Pro mercury sticks because you can get such a clear reading, however I hate even touching the things knowing whats inside them. I did not know about the Motion Pro non mercury option, and I'm first...er, I guess at this point, second or third, in line.

I use the Davida gauges too. These gauges are specifically for motorbikes and are "pre-dampend", so you don't actually get large fluctuations on the needles. They do vibrate about 3mm at the needle ends, but I find this quite usable. I haven't used the bar type gauges. They may well be a better option - the Davida gauges aren't cheap either.

finally available - the mercury free sync pro from motion pro. I have them in stock, link to purchase above. This is the best option out there.
