Hi y'all. My name is Geoff Probert and I'm restoring a 1976 900SS that I picked up on eBay in July last year. This post is in response to requests (Steve!) to post pictures of progress etc .... more to follow - as progress is made! I'll start with some pictures of the disassembly....

Rebuilt carbs immediately and engine started ok!

Messy old electrics
Image
In fact it was all pretty messy

More to follow soon......

Second batch....

The electrics were no better under the dash
Image
Bit of a dog'd breakfast at this time
Image
Needed a lot of shelf space
Image
Cleaned up the rims and hibs and respoked the wheels
Image
The boys were impressed

One of the Conti's needed some work

Heads were in good condition but needed a decoke
Image
One way of remembering the spoke pattern (it's actually so easy this isn't necessary)
Image
That Conti reparied nicely
Image
A lot of bits went for new chrome (still waiting on the gas cap....)
Image
And these bits went for new paint
Image
Resilvering was required
Image
Always worth putting in a pic of a failure too: dash wrinkle finish paint looks crap on fork sliders and triple trees!!
Image
Rear shocks are being rebuilt; one surprise was that the damper rods were different lengths....
Image
Parts for cad plating
Image
Parts after cad plating!
Image
I won't be splitting the cases, but heads and pistons will get a decoke (after 11000miles)
Image

Cheers! Watch for updates through the spring; target on the road is end-March 05!

(by the way I have litterally hundreds of photos of the disassembly, these are just a precis; if you need a pic of a part or the position of a part, ask; I may have it covered already!)

I don't think ofoto allows linking photos like that? Or it's done wrong. Either way, the only way I can see the pics is to view the source file for the page and then cut/paste the info into a new page...

yes guys, like i say in the directions for HOW TO POST PHOTOS IN THIS GALLERY, oFoto is not allowing this stuff so should be avoided. Geoff did what he had to do correctly, but something on the oFoto side of things is not allowing the image to show up.

Please read the directions at the link below.....

Looking good! I'm trying to figure out what I want to fool around with once my GT is done, and I'd like to find something like that to start with.

Have fun with it.

Ok Shanners has shamed me in to putting some more recent pics up. In fact the bike runs - sort of. I'm trying to diagnose a rear cylinder misfire (more like it only occasionally fires....) at the moment otherwise I'd be happy. Lucas Rita; there's only so many ways to skin this diagnostic cat.

I'm just waiting for a replacement Galfer front brake line before I put the front fender on...(the one I received earlier had accidentally chromed threads so was out of spec for a 10x1.0mm thread size!
Image

This last one illustrates the mess coming out of my rear exhaust port. I've swopped the HT leads around to no visible effect, I've shorted out the plug and that's how you can hear the thump thump of an occasional fire versus no thump on that pot when shorted. I need to think, hard.
