The brake lever looks like its of a Pantah
The clutch lever is SD
Rear sets and rear pegs, hard to tell from the pictures but look like a very neat mod to incorporate pegs fitted on SD std foot peg mount , rear pegs late SS belt drive
When you look at image 22 & 23 zoomed in I think the front guard is also SD as it does not look rounded enough to be an SSD guard
Front forks should be polished
Rims had a polished shoulder

I didnt think that SSD's were still made in 83. the ones that were rego'd would surely be leftovers from the year before

But I do like it , its nice and tidy just the same , nice bike do you ride it often ?

Previous owner was an ex Frasers and Veetwo mechanic in Perth, he added the kick start in one of his previous rebuilds and the rear brake lever mod because of the kickstart as well as pegs etc. Decals etc from road and race everything else from veetwo or bevel heaven. Definitely an 83 (4/83) my boss has an 83SD in France has the same seat?????? Bike was originally a maroon color. Not into showing the bike for its originality etc goes like dog doodie off a shovel and try to ride it as much as possible.

Hi LarsLynn,

If you can send me the frame and engine numbers, I'd be grateful - it's for a little SSD register I keep.

You can pm me.

TIA.

G'day Martin,
Just a comment on the footpeg statement. There were 2 types. The early ones were fitted to a welded lug on the frame and had issues for the pillion with the different high mounted position of the rear pegs as well. Later models of the SSD had the front pegs with associated linkages fitted to the serrated lug on the frame similar to the 1978 SS from memory and that allowed the rear pegs to drop to the normal exhaust bracket position making it more comfortable for the pillion.
Retro fitting this setup made sense if you fitted a kickstart especially if you upped the engine specs. I have 2 Darmahs that can only be kickstarted due to engine mods.

Hi all,
Just remembered another thing. There were some SSDs assembled and imported into Oz much later than 1983. Can't remember exactly when but will check. Much the same as the 1978 750GTs which aren't supposed to exist but do just like the S2 Mille Frankenducs.

78's

Post by Rick F »

the 78 GT's definitely exist

I have one, and another was just on evilbay....dont know if it sold

Falloon mentions them in his Bible

apparently 40 GT's & 23 Sports came in.

I have heard a couple of reason why

1. aussie dealers wanted them because the 860's didnt sell well

2. a shipment had been prepared for USA, and then they banned the right hand shift....so we got em
