78 SS Resto

Post by K-Mac »

I had this '78 SS sitting in the back of the shed for a few years now and the time is nigh. Here is a few pics of the bike when I first bought [img]http://i680.photobucket.com/albums/vv166/Kymbos/bikes3006.jpg[/IMG]untitled.jpg[/IMG]

Martin, Not sure if the headlight is meant to be black, there has a lot of chrome on this bike at present and I'm not 100% sure what is or not right. The plan is to get it close to original so most of the chrome will be removed.Someone did spend a lot of time/money chromeing/ polishing eveyrthing on the bike and yeah it was hip in the '80s but it doesn't dig me.It took me 3 months trying to come to terms with the paint job before I bought it.

hey k
definetly go back to silver/blue
frame-hope that gold is paint and not nickel plate
forks and triples-powder coat black crinkle-prepare carefully
get rid of that chromed oil filter cap
new levers needed-hard to find
replace all rubber bits
is the stand chromed?-could be a problem
shocks?-impossible to find

told ya the pics were clear to me

Silver and blue it will be
Going to see Sir Notts new mate at the powdercoaters next week
Found out the right-hand fork slider has been damaged and repaired to a very poor quality,New pair arrived last week.
The list of other parts is getting longer every time I spend time on the net.
Going to order a new set of Ikon shockers this week. Which ones?? 7610-1418 or 7610-1250sp5 What's the diff?
I wanna try and get a bit of stuff to the soda-blasters this week as well.
Wheels will be getting some new s-steel spokes(and unfortuately they are only Akronts)
Looks like the Company that employs me will be having a slow week!
And thanks Gum for the photography tips and here's my tip to you Gum,don't jump off the top of bunk beds it really, really hurts.

Ikons

Post by xpiotos52 »

K-Mac,
When I did my '77 750ss I spoke to the dude at Ikon and he recommended 7610-1250, so I went with those. That was this year, I'm 90kilos and got 'em on the lowest setting ,they seem to work just fine! :-D . Cost was $475 delivered to ACT.

The chromed headlight shell should be correct for a '78. Mine was made in late '78 and has the same thing.
