Front wheel spindle '80 900ss

Post by larsen »

My newly acquired 1980 900ss clearly seems to have an incorrect front wheel spindle. Can anybody let me know the correct overall length of the spindle and the length of the larger diameter segment?
Thanks 🙂

what makes you think that you have an incorrect front spindle?

do you have the forks setup as per original so that the F08 calipers are out front?

speedometer drive on the right side of the bike (as you would have sitting on the bike)?

thin washer between speedometer drive and inside of fork leg?

axle NUT is sitting on the LEFT side of the bike?

Hi Steve, thanks for the reply.
I think I have the wrong spindle because the unthreaded end sits very deep into the (right side) fork leg and the threaded end has a botched spacer under the nut because it protudes too far from the leg
I'll take some photos later.

In answer to your questions,
yup, calipers to the front
speedo gearbox on right
Thin washer between gearbox and forkleg.
axle nut on left side of bike.

Any other ideas welcomed! (or dimensions so I could confirm if it's right or wrong)

Thanks
Neil
