Spoked Wheels : Who are the best suppliers to know?

I live in Australia and am currently about to build a
750SS replica. I would like to find out through the experience of
others, who the best suppliers of Borrani-type spoked wheels are.

It would be good to find out who to talk to locally but I'm also
interested in overseas suppliers.

Any advice or comments would be welcomed and appreciated.

I hadn't heard of Buchanan's before will investigate. Have seen Phils on his site but just wanted to know what all the alternatives are before purchasing.

I think I remember hearing about a NZ company too, if anyone can remember their name it would be great. Post it here!

Also, any others that are worthy that haven't been mentioned yet, post them here!

Spoked Wheels : Correct SS Wheel Dimensions

According to the Ducati 750 SS - 900 SS Desmo Workshop Manual
(1975 - 1977 Models) the correct rim specs are as follows:

Front rim . . . of steel with dimensions: 18" x 3"
Rear rim . . . of steel with dimensions: 18" x 3"

This is from page 7 of the Workshop Manual.

the ss never had steel rims

You might want to check page 7 of the
"DUCATI 750 SS - 900SS Desmo WORKSHOP MANUAL"
for models 1975 - 1977, as I did where it clearly states:

" of steel with dimensions: 18" x 3" "

You wouldn't be talking about post-'85 models, would you?

I agree ss never had steel wheels. All the factory litrature cannot be taken as read, some of the translation is dreadfull, my belt drive 900 hand book states "Never start a cold motorcycle"??????

SSD hand book tells you to use 20W50 oil, do that and you lose your big ends in 14K!

"Borrani 40 spoke WM 3x18 alloy rims fitted front and rear ('74ss) carried the designation WM4777, with steel spokes painted silver.

Odd that the SS would come with steel rims while my '74 GT came with aluminum Borianis.

Why has nobody mentioned Gowanlochs?
Autralian company, and last time I looked they were doing some really good prices one these very items...

For Johnny Englander, there's Central Wheel: www.central-wheel.co.uk , who do butted S/S spokes to order.
I've used their spokes on a T140 Bonneville with no probs, and I've just put an order in for the SS - I'll let you know how I get on.

I would recommend them very highly - I used them to rebuild a pair of wheels for a 250 Daytona. Going for the original look but with a touch of practicality I went for unpolished stainless spokes, brass nipples and chrome Radaelli rims. The latter were supposedly water damaged in a flood they had a couple of years ago but I couldn't find anything wrong with them and at £15 each for an original fitment item I was well pleased...
Any more wheels that I need work doing on will def. be going to them

Guys-

Should be 18" x WM3 which IIRC is actually 2.15" bead to bead. Don't fit 3" wide rims or you will be unhappy.

I have two FPS rear rims and no front rims to use on a 79' SS Darmah race bike I am about to start work on. I am told you can have the rear machined down to fit front. Who would do this and are thier better options?
Being able to get slicks to fit is a must.
Anyone know whats available as far as rubber goes. Spoked rims would probibly be better for the weight issue.
