860GT stator alignment

Post by rjk40 »

Hi All,

Another semi-ignorant question:

On the alternator stator mounting on the case, do the triangular tabs, when installed snug against the shoulder of the stator assembly, give the stator proper alignment and clearance to the rotor, so as to not be rubbed by the rotor when re-mounted on the case?

My concern is that, during the process of polishing the case outside surface, I do not want to overheat the stator winding, lest the shellac insulation melt and short. Thus, I want to remove the stator for that reason.

If any of you have removed and replace the stator, and have any pointers, I would appreciate any advice.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Richard, just take it out and you will see that the thing nestles down into a bore and snugs down for a tight fit. Just eyeball it as it goes in and once it stops, its good. You can see / verify that it is in straight and all the way then you are good to go.
