Yes Kev that is a good explanation of the use of a 'Zero Crossing ' trigger.
This type of trigger has a precise trigger point that is the same regardless of the engine speed. It is mainly used in latter systems where they just need one precise trigger point, with the computer to control the advance.

All the ones we have on the early engines, use the voltage point to control the advance, well except for the Ducati cdi on the 75/76 models that was a different approach. :lol:

Yes. Which clearly explains (with voltage amplitude being inversly related to the square of the distance) why the air gap is so important.
