Darmah Ignition Timing

Post by mizike77 »

Im sure this has been covered before but here goes. I think my timing may be way off. The bike just doesnt seem to pull past 4k RPM like im told it should. I am running down the checklist of causes. I would like to check my timing but do not have the proper tool. Is there a way to make a tool to attach to the crank? I have a printed out degree wheel but i have no way to attach it to the motor. There has got to be a home made tool around somewhere!!
I put in steves inducer harness, and followed the diagram in the forum. My bike also had an aftermarket pick up set installed in it when I got it. All I did was duplicate the previous owners wiring. Maybe he did it wrong all those years ago? The bike has high comp .40 over pistons and 40mm carbs. I feel like it should pull a lot better than it does.
Here are some links to my pick up photos.

Timing tool

I'm guessing you want to strobe your timing, in which case you'll need a degree disc which fits the end of the crank with the plug removed from the clutch cover....while retaining the oil feed to the crank.

Faced with the same dilemma I bought one - total no brainer!

I don't think Steve has them listed....mine came from an Aussie guy who advertises on ebay - I can recommend it very highly (less than a week to the UK too).

I dare you to make one cheaper ;)

Maybe someone close to home can rent one out to you?

Cheers,
