headlight reflectorization -aka- aluminum vapor process

Post by cafe*racer »

I just spoke with the only private individual here in the states that does this process. The deal is that he is an auto enthusiast and he does this service as a favor to restorers and not for profit. His company does high tech industrial coating and he can run small reflectors through the vacuum chamber on a space available basis. To cover his cost is about $40.00 per reflector.

The process is similar to that currently used in the auto industry today and yeilds 92% reflectivity. The only catch is that steel reflectors must first be nickel plated and polished. The quality and durability of the final product is dependant on the quality of the nickel base plating.

I will be pursuing this route, will update as progress is made.
