MHR voltage regulator

Hello all,

I have a problem with an MHR. I can't start it anymore.
after changing the throttle cable about two months ago, I started it without problems. Two weeks ago I tried to start it but it ran only for a few turn and then cut off.

I tried to start it yesterday to take it for a ride but no luck.
The battery was a bit weak (water level very low). I added water to the
battery. The voltage is still a bit low 11.4 V at the moment.
When I try to start it I turn on the choke and it ticks over for 1 round
and then quits. After that impossible to get any life in it.
when I turn of the ignition it happens from time to time to get an
explosion in the exhaust (always left side, front cylinder)
Checking the fuel lines I wondered if the rear cylinder gets enough
fuel. The fuel line on the right side always looks empty. But when I
took of the carb and twist the trottle it is obvious that the injector
gets enough fuel so I guess that is alright.

I noticed that on the voltage regulator of the MHR there are two tabs
not connected. On the SS900 the tabs are connected to the according wires.
Does anyone know for sure if the wires on the MHR need to be connected to the regulator ? The electrics and ignition are standard.

Those terminals do look like they have had something plugged on them, think that is the terminals that the alternator coil wires hook to.

Did you balance the carbie cables so that both slides are opening the same amount?

yes I balanced the cables after replacing them.
I also think that the cables need to be connected as the tabs are all shiny.
Probably I unplugged them accidentally while working on the cables.

I will try again after plugging the cables back.

That did not help.

I got sparks on both cylinders but the battery is dying I guess. After trying to start it for a bit the battery's voltage was only 10,4.

Is it possible to start an MHR with a dead battery ? since it is a kick starter.
Sorry to ask all these dumb questions. My previous kickstarter bike (DT 250) was no problem to start with a dead battery but I am not sure about the Bevels.
Next stop buying a battery charger I guess.

Some advice, do you see the earth symbol at the regulator?
Make sure it's grounded to bare metal, maybe scrape some red paint of the chassis.
I have fitted a wire directly from the - post of the battery to the bolt next to the ground symbol, just to be sure.
Some years ago, a regulator exploded (!!) on my bike, while driving it, because of overheating due to a bad ground....

It sounds like your battery is sulfated.If it has been low on water and discharged or been sitting for a time it is now a paperweight.The Ducatis need over 10 volts to even produce a glimmer of a spark.If you put a voltmeter on the battery with the ign. on and read the voltage you will find out really how much voltage you are dealing with.I'll bet it's not very much.Get yourself an AGM type battery for a replacement.They are maintance free and pack much more reserve power than a lead acid wet type battery.
