1979 900SS - layout of wiring loom on frame
My 1979 900SS has been "resting" for a few years and now that I am putting it back together I have forgotten how the wiring loom sits on the frame (duh!) Dont want to assemble it all and then find that bits of loom are hanging out where they shouldnt! Does anybody have a photo(s) or diagram of how the original wiring loom sits on the frame? [

Thanks for that - all I really need is a simple drawing (or some photos) of where the loom sits on the frame (eg does it run on the top of the frame under the tank) so that when I have everything assembled I dont have the wiring loom in the wrong place on the frame. At this stage I have the frame two-packed and wheels on and starting to add whatever is ready to go on - need to overhaul the engine top end before it goes back in.

I think you are more advanced - right now I have the frame/swing arm painted with two pack and slowly!! adding bits as I clean/polish/repair them. Want to add the wiring loom now that I have videos of where it goes! But I also need to get my 900ie back on the road which has priority right now.nottonight68 wrote:ozzie duke is your resto at about the same stage as mine-see 76 900ss resto

I had another look at it - its not really that sad - its original and intact - may just need to reterminate some lugs and reno the fuse blocknottonight68 wrote:how sad is sad
if you loom is intact and unmolested it should be ok
the main problem area is connections-check all connection blocks & lugs -these can be hard to repair without correct tools

unless you have wiring skills, clean up your old loom
im putting on different switch & adding relay etc
ive gone through the original wiring diagram and deleted a lot of excess wires etc and have now got a basic easy to follow drawing.
ill be building new loom next
what ill do-and you can do this-is wire bike up,dont bother with stator wires or regulator wires-fit all lights, switches etc-fit charged up battery then test to see everything works as it should
once this is confirmed you can fix all wiring in place and when motor is fitted connect wiring-and away you go
cheers steve
