Hey all,
Hope sombody in here can help me. Recently I (by terrible mistake) loosend the allan screw, holding the Pickupplate on my bike. I now have some trouble replacing the plate correctly. I read in the workshop manual of a special tool, used to align the pickups, but have not been able to find such a tool anywhere.
Anyone got a clue, as how to get this tool, or is there another way ?
I recently bought another Rotor and fitted it on an axel and tried to ajust the pickups this way - it worked abit, but it still isnt perfect. the bike now only runs on one cylinder at 900 rps.. misfires at 1500 - 3000 rpm (partly running on both cylinders) At 3500 rpm it seems to run ok. I went for a short ride on it, but the bike feels wrong.. it hasnt got nearely the amount of torque it had before..
In hope that somebody can help.
/Martin

kilmer, I hope by now you have found a solution? If not, I can adjust your pickups, you can send me your sidecover - I have the special Ducati tool. Send me an email and we can talk about cost etc to Shop (at) bevelheaven (dot) com

Hey Steve,
First of all, thanks for your reply! I ran across another sitecover, still holding both the pickus and used that one to align the pickups - which worked.
Still im wondering.. without the special tool it seems a bit 'random' how the pickups are alligned, which strikes me as odd. On my onl Norton there (with a Boyer Brandsen electronic ignition) there is a rather small margin of error before it wont work completely.
On the Ducati different settings gives (obviously) the engine different running abilities - one of my test settings made the engine fare more agressive than normal - is there really no way to control these pickupsettings better?

the ducati tool sets the pickups a specific distance from eachother and a certain distance from the center to give the correct air gap. The center part of the tool can be rotate which will change timing but still maintain the proper air gap. Understand?

It makes perfect sense - is it possible to buy such at tool these days? Maybe make a usable copy of the one you got?`
Again I thank you for your time

Hi Martin,
I don't know whether Steve can help, but ...
They do turn up on eBay occasionally, and V2 in Australia will make you one - go http://www.veetwo.net/store_product.asp?CID=28&PID=365. It will be expensive, I expect.
But, to be honest, unless you are doing a lot of engine re-builds, you need one so rarely, they're not worth buying.
A better choice may be to join the Ducati Owners Club GB http://www.docgb.org/photo_gallery/index.htm and rent one!
Ciao
