FOR SALE - UNIQUE 350 Desmo Special Roadracer

Post by b5070 »

SHORT STROKE/LONG ROD 350cc.
(Just wanted to bump this to the top, as I need to sell it soon !!)

A couple of years ago I bought a mid 60's 450 Desmo -- which was part set up for roadrace. It was in need of lots of TLC -- so, I decided to rebuild the whole thing. Frame is Jupiter.
Starting from the ground up, new swing arm bushings and axle were fitted, and the headstock converted to tapered roller bearings.
I sourced a NOS 35mm Marzocchi front end,and a Custom alloy T stem and nuts were built to fit it to the frame. Frame was painted in a low sheen black.
Custom lightweight chromemoly rearset pedals are mounted on alloy footpegs.
Rear wheel is polished Wm3 Borrani shouldered rim, with new HD stainless spokes and nipples, mounted to totally rebuilt (new bearings/cush drive etc) and painted 450 hub. Lightweight Sprocket Specialists rear sprockets (3 or 4 different tooth counts)
Front wheel is new Wm3 Tagasako shouldered rim, with new HD stainless spokes and nipples, mounted to a new Grimeca 180mm double sided hub with custom brake stays. Brake backing plates have air flow holes machined in them.
Brakes are custom relined by Vintage Brake.
Tyres are latest compound Dunlop full race KR125A/KR825 with new HD innertubes.
Clip ons are Woodcraft lightweight alloy. Levers are Amal alloy.
All control cables are Barnett, custom made to fit the bike. Rear brake is also cable operated. Throttle is fast action whirlpool type.
Tachometer is Scitsu induction type.
Tank and seat are Vic Camp style fibreglass, as is belly pan.
Vic Camp style full fairing and screen (not fitted).
Custom built Works Performance shocks. Storz/Ceriani steering damper.
ENGINE.
To convert to 350cc, crankshaft was de-stroked by 7.5mm, with new HD crank pin by Falicon in Florida, and special over sized silver plated rod bearing fitted to new 7.5mm longer conrod, which was built by Carrillo.
Gearbox is close ratio 5 speed Nova. Straight cut primary gears(including spare set) drive all new Nova dry multiplate clutch, fitted with bronze plates.
Cylinder head is 2 plug, with Reno Leoni cam, and re-plated rocker arms. Head was built and ported by Johnathan White from Prova in Ohio, (home of some of the fastest Ducati singles in the country !!) and has new guides and custom made valves. Johnathan also degreed the cam (chart available).
Piston is 88mm (450, over sized), with new rings, pin/clips etc.
Carb is Mikuni VM 36mm roundslide, oval bored to 38+mm, with UFO fitted to slide. Inlet manifold is Custom built/portmatched.
Exhaust is Custom built 1-5/8" header, into reverse cone, with glass pack silencer.
The engine has all new bearings /seals/bushings.
Ignition is total loss Dyna electronic, with new battery and dual fire Dyna coil. Plug leads are Taylor Spiro Pro. Top end oil lines are Aeroquip type.
Front and rear paddock stands.
The bike has been built using mostly new parts, with many custom built brackets etc, and comes with a few small spare parts. I'll also "throw in" a stock steel Jupiter fuel tank -- in good condition.
ALL work has been done by consummate professionals.

Since rebuilding the engine, it has been run for around 3 or 4 minutes -- just enough to warm it up.
Proposed RPM limit will be around 10K. Expected power output - high 30's BHP. (Rear wheel)
It was built to compete in Ahrma 350GP class.
Altogether a very pretty/functional bike.
Asking price $15.000 (USD) PLUS shipping. Can possibly ship Worldwide.

A lot of water under the bridge since I last posted here. Moved to Austin Texas, and am once again operating under the West Coast Racing name. Please check my WCR Facebook page out -- https://www.facebook.com/westcoastracingvintage
The racer is still for sale, at the reduced price of $12.000 USD. Want to go racing (and win!) in 2014, then this is the bike for you!
Cheers,
Brid.
