I took one of my headers into the local welding shop to fix a hairline crack on the lip. I needed to do this prior to sending them off to get them re chromed.

I just picked it up and here it is with the other one for comparison.

he even welded the washer:

A nice old boy that repairs boat props (amongst other things). I paid and left before I said something I'd regret later.

The one I was trying to repair had seen some abuse in the past - to the point where I was unable to slide the washer round the bend as the tube was a little distorted. So I probably should try and source another.... In the meantime I'm off to try the other welder.

Incidentally the washer does not appear in my parts book.

Struth Crash,

It looks like I've welded it for you, with my 120 amp stick welder that was given to me free. I've had 2 goes at it now , once to practice, Blew the fuses, and once to weld an upright on a trailor. 2 inch horizontal weld. took me 2 hours and 2 grinding disks !

I feel I'm getting better though, so give me a call, I think I'm ready to weld some alloy cases ???

Cheers
Rick

no chuckling here. you could save it with a die grinder, Dremel tool, some files, and a bunch of time. or, cut it off and (properly!!!) weld on a newly machined end.

I've done a few of mine like that, laid on a bit more bead and some time with a grinder it comes out fine. If it doesn't leak appearance matters little as it is hidden anyway.
