Wednesday evening 7/30/08
Carol says "basically, he seems to be making some progress. His pneumonia is getting much better and the infection he has (the source of which they still haven't determined) also seems to be improving. He is still heavily sedated, but they are decreasing the sedation. I'll keep you up-to-date. Please thank everyone for me for all their support. It has meant a lot to us."
Remember if you have not sent a gift to Carol [$$] to help out yet with Frank, please do so.

Thursday Night Update
Thursday night update from Carol.........
Great news! Frank is doing much better today. He has been extubated (off the ventilator) and is totally breathing on his own. They have decreased his sedation even more and he's starting to wake up. If all keeps going well, he may start having his bones fixed next week. I will keep you posted as Frank progresses. Thanks to everyone for all the great emails get well cards.

Tuesday Mid Day
Tuesday Mid Day Update from Carol
Frank has been in surgery since early this morning. The orthopedic surgeons have decided to do as many of the bone repairs as they can today. If Frank can tolerate it, they will do all of them. They have called from the OR a couple of times to tell us that so far Frank is doing OK, but they were still working on his right arm (the first repair), in which all 3 bones are broken, one of them shattered. That call was around 1 p.m. Hopefully they'll be able to do everything today, so he'll only have one surgery to recover from instead of two or three.

Thursday Night Update
Thursday Night Update From Carol
Frank is still in the ICU and will be there a while. He is still heavily sedated but now off the ventillator again. He seems to have tolerated the surgery well and hopefully will now be able to start the very long recovery and rehab process. Please let everyone know that all their support is greatly appreciated. It will be some time before he will be able to have any visitors, though. I will keep you posted.

Aug 9 Saturday AM update from Carol
Aug 9 Saturday AM update from Carol
Frank has unfortunately had a couple of setbacks after surgery. He had some internal bleeding in one of the surgical sites, which had to be repaired yesterday, but that seems to be stabilized now. He also may be developing pneumonia again and is back on the ventilator and a new course of antibiotics. As before, he is very heavily sedated. I will keep you up to date on changes in his condition.

Aug 12 update
August 12 evening update from Carol
Frank is doing better today. Though he's still fighting the pneumonia, he is no longer on a ventillator.
I'll say with some caution that I think he's on the mend.
He's still getting a lot of medication to keep him comfortable. He's still in the ICU (it will be one month tomorrow) and will probably be there a couple more days, then move to a regular unit. He'll need to be evaluated by his docs and the ortho rehab specialists to see where he goes after that.

Frank's condition
Hello All,
My name is Carol Scurria. I'm Frank's sister. I have been sending Steve updates on Frank's condition, but Steve is out of town and asked me to write directly to the forum. I sent Steve and email a few days back saying that Frank was doing well and continuing to make progress. Unfortunately, Frank has had a setback. He had more difficulty breathing and it was discovered that he had a lot of fluid leaking into his chest. This morning the doctors put chest tubes in to drain off the fluid. This is an etremely painful process, but Frank is hanging in there. I will keep you posted on his condition. I am confident he will get over this like all the other hurdles he's had. He's a tough guy with a good attitude. This may slow him down some, but it won't stop him.
Thanks to all of you for all your support and good wishes for Frank. I know it will mean so much to Frank. It already has meant so much to me and my family.

Aug 22 update from Carol
Frank's doing very well. . He is still having his ups and downs and remains in the ICU. He's totally awake now, so I brought in all the get well cards that he's recieved over the last 5 1/2 weeks. He really enjoyed reading them. Please let everyone at BevelHeaven know that the cards and online good wishes are really appreciated. I'm going to try to bring in a laptop (I think there's wifi in his room) so that he can look at the forum.
