Below are some notes I have been saving in regard to some various paint codes.......

If you have anything current you can add please do so....

Here are the Silver codes I have so far:
Per Hans Mercedes Benz Astral Silver, Metallic
Per Barbers Dairy resto shop: Dupont D8806 or 95 Ford Silver
Per Syds Cycle: Dupont N8075U Metallic Silver
Per Phil @ Road and Race: Ford Artic Silver
Per Romanelli: Volvo Silver

From Phil at Road and Race
HEY STEVE please adjust listing the ford arctic silver & blue i quoted is for n/c singles NOT twins. the blue is close to kingfisher blue

'75 900SS is Fiat F 620 Chairo.

Here's a couple of factory color codes for the early squarecase SS:
sviloid metallizatto smalto alla alluminio #62011 (frame & cycle parts)
sviloid perlato azzurro #62235 (fairing)
I actually have a can of each, the blue metallic is full (.5 L), the silver
(1 L) has been reduced with thinner from a prior tank repaint. Got them from Berliner (US importer) in about 1978. The cans are labelled as being
produced by The International Paint Co. Ltd., Courtaulds Group (London) and also The Societa' Vernici Italianne Standard. I am guessing they were
produced in Italy. They are no longer in business, at least under those
names. Spent some time on the net trying to track them down. They are a perfect match for my '77 900SS. My Imola tank silver is the same, so good back to '74.

On factory colors. There will be controversy on the green frame. The official color stated on 9 May 1973 on the 750SS parts list is "azzuro metallizzato" and "alluminio metallizzato" for the silver. The problem is that azzuro is the name for blue and not green. When the parts list was created, the 72 Smart and the show bike WERE BLUE and NOT Green. During the later part of 73 the color changed but the litterature did not.

So, we are going to have a lot of people calling the green azzuro when it is not. But, the original Show bike was blue. And, maybe the Smart bike too!!

Here are the color mixes; Dupont Imron Greenframe Green To make a quart:

758S Drier 44.4
700A White 45.3
752A Trans. Oxide 61.3
720A Phthalo Blu II 84.0
742A Blue Green 119.2
710A Med. Alum. 777.8
756A Binder 888.0

Silver
Dupont Imron 42654U
1972 Mercedes Benz Code DB735 Astral Silver Metalic B/C

To make a quart:
535U Jet Black 42.5
521U Alum. 166.5
572U Clear 701.5

Here are some more codes from Steve Ross:

Greenframe: Ditzler DDL 2168
Silver: Ditzler DDL 2518

Silver Shotguns: Paint Matching Using Ford Colour Range

(Edited extract from post on Bevelheads List 23/03/2004 by Phil Hitchcock)

Shotguns: Ford Arctic Blue & Arctic Silver from the 80s are close
to older kingfisher colours. Use them as a starting point, then adjust
using tints to suit.

Get a jar of #2 metal flakes from Spray Chief or similar supplier. This
is mixed in the clear top coat over a silver base.

I have seen some Silver Shots that even have small bits of black flake
in them. Almost impossible to match original as you will need spots on the
tank where it appears there was a blob of to much flake - caused
by a blocked nozzle clearing itself!

Don't forget to use a really cheap, almost satin finish, black if you want
to get that factory finish on the frame.

as a painter, I would go into my local professional paint shop supplier and tell them I needed a half pint of 'bass boat' silver metal flake...... You know, to get that bass boat sparkle!

Metal flake comes in many different sizes, literally. The smallest sizes mimic a pearl paint, but that is a different subject completely.

You should start by spraying down a nice silver metalic then mix up some of those largest silver flakes into your clearcoat as per the manuf instructions and apply. Don;t overdo it and put too thick a coat on. Remember, the original crap paint had these HUGE particles, with space between them... Some other colours as well [the occasional black specs].

I have just got a close match to some scraps of paint and photos I have of these bikes and am fairly sure the closest Euro color is as follows.

European color paint reference:

Derbi Motor 1980 - 2003
Code AKZO: DER9022
Groupe: Bleu
Colormap: 618B6

I have more info if anyone needs it.

I have no way of looking at a Ford Arctic Blue form Australia..

another from Carl Dreher

If you are talking about the orangey-gold color, try:

Deltron 2000 basecoat
Nissan brand code 903272
OEM code A12
Imperial Orange / Volcanic Orange

This is what my painter used on my bike and it perfectly matched an original fender.

Thanks.

Does anyone have the paint codes for the Red/Wine colored 74-75 GT's? The paint on mine is pretty much gone, and I can see the steel on the top of the tank. :(
