Hi guys,
Can anyone help with this query? I want to know if the metal tank on the Ducati 900S2 is the same as the fiberglass tank on the 73 sport. My tank has given up the ghost and I want to replace it with a metal one rather than a replica fiberglass tank.
Thanks in advance.

No they are different lengths by a couple inches iirc.

Hi Steve
Thanks for that. They look the same so I am glad I asked the question before I bought it.
Maybe I should just cough up the extra coin and buy an alloy hand made one.
Cheers
Brett

Here is a steel tank which is perfect for your Sport...

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ducati-Bevel ... 3d03600f96

If you grind of the petcock outlets and round of 2 nuts and then mig them on to the tank it will be correct. Or remove the round nuts from your old tank and mig them on to this tank...

Not sure but don't know if anyone makes these tanks in Alloy unless it is the Imola version

Hi Steve
Thanks for that. I will keep an eye on the auction. I hope it doesn't go for ridiculous money , but anything bevel usually does.

Brett

I might be mis remembering, I can check tomorrow at my shop. I know the sport tank is longer than the early similar shaped 750GT tank.... I'll measure up against one of my super sport tanks and post my findings.

Don't "MIG" anything on a Ducati ! A good machine deserves good welds, and MIG welding isn't good welding. It barely IS welding, being not far removed from a cold joint, with almost no penetration.
