Desmo stickeron a 76 - 900SS

Post by MartinMille BANNED »

I know this came up before I but not find the post about it

The Desmo sticker round "E" or square "E" ???

According to Steve's shop
DESMO - round E - 750SS
DESMO - square E - 900SS

what is correct for a 76 - 900SS ? I have seen both on 900's
Even my SSD had the round E and its a genuine untouched fairing

Martin, I recall seeing this referenced in Ian Falloons book, I think it was after 78 Square E (on 900SS). Before 78 round E.
78- Square E.

I may be wrong, and I am sure I will get corrected , will check his books for you

Grant I have since found out that the 900 had the square and the 750 had rounded "E" , when I asked Ian he said Square as did several sticker blokes and one that had an original 75 900, it was square

The other thing I found out that the 75 900 had a lighter shade of blue than the 76 / 77 900's

As I will be fitting an Imloa tank to mine mainly to get a better range I will have to hunt down a seat base for a 75 as these were shorter than the 76 / 77 SS's

Anyone got a 75 seat base they want to sell ?

hey martin
square desmo-never saw em in the day-got photos to prove it
to fit a 75 tank to a 76-----you dont need a 75 seat-fit tank-cut seat fibre to suit-re-upholster
easy peasy

cheers steve

Yeah might just do that and trim the front section of a spare base and have it re-upholstered

DESMO decals

Post by DesmoKid »

FWIW the DESMO stickers on every UNRESTORED SuperSport that I have seen, in the flesh and in every book or brochure, have rounded Es. Both 750SS and 900SS and SSD prior to 1981 have rounded Es. The 1981 did not have these DESMO decals and only the 1982 900 SS desmos had the square Es. Please look at the bikes for sale/sold on this website, check the brochures, look at the books. Yes, I know Mr.Falloon's beautiful 75 has square E decals but it's restored........

Early 900ss

My take on the subject:

'75 900 ss had rounded E DESMO stickers.
Not all '75 models were pale blue - one of mine was definitely metallic blue (per the fairing) throughout, the other one had deep blue graphics everywhere except the fairing (See previous posts for colour match)

Cheers,

Andy
