I just had a look at the first one, and I can't believe my eyes, are those units made of gold, or what....!!
Madness, $2.427.00 for just a headlight...??
If I ever need one for my Special I'm going to find a suitable one under $100 in the car parts store or motorcycle junkyard, I don't care much about originality at all, and for the $2000 I keep in my pocket I can do a lot of maintenance work on ALL of my bikes...totaly crazyness.....!!!

your joking

Your bang on the money Pete. I ride these bikes because I like how they operate. Not so some stooge with a clip board can point his pencil at the parts that monitary policy forced me to use to keep it on the road.

I've been looking around for somewhere to restore the correct finish on the reflector, anyone have any ideas? Apparently it's a type of aluminum coating, silver or chrome are not really correct, so I'm told.

I am going to restore an Aprilia headlight soon and I think that I will silver it using the electroplaters at Strathpine. There are some restorers in Germany that will do the correct coating ( I think). Their site is www.vintage-headlamp-restoration.com I don't know of anyone over here, however.

Problem with silver is that it will tarnish after awhile, you know, like silver plated cutlery.

Yes it will tarnish but at the same time add patina to the look of the bike
Mine will be done the old way "Silvering"

Anyone thought of contacting Damien Birch at Bevel Rubber? Mine is with him at the moment.

Headlight re-silvering

Post by BevelDave »

Well according to Damien it's actually an aluminium coating. Got my headlight back, it looks like a new one!! It took a little while but well worth it. :-)
