I'm about to start a 750SS replica project and intend to paint it up in the colours of the original Green Frame pre-production model, circa 1973-74.
Problem is I can't find the paint colour codes anywhere! And as I understand, there was a lot of variation through out the models produced.
Does anyone have access to the original factory codes or been able to emulate them at least? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Green Frame Colour Codes: Can Anyone Assist?
In 1980 I colour matched a green frame owned by a mate of mine so I could repaint his faded tank. I matched the colour from the frame rails under the tank which had not been exposed to the weather or UV - it was, to all who saw it, undetectable from the original. In 1994 I made up another batch of identical colour which I still have. I don't know how this will be of help to you other than to send you a small batch which can then be matched by someone in your neck of the woods.
Happy to help out.
Cheers,
TONY

Thanks Tony, I think I might take you up on that offer. Seems the easiest way so far of getting this task ticked off.
I'm in Chatswood NSW Australia, where are you located?
All I would really need is a decent sized sample painted on a piece of non-porous substrate, i.e tin, plastic, perspex even wood.
I can get my mailing address to you if you reply to this and agree that you can help out.
BTW, did you have any luck with that tacho boot? I don't know if it was exactly what you were after but I thought it might help anyway and Mr Birch is pretty knowledgable on these matters I understand.
Thanks again,
Chris Shannon

I might be able to get the paint made up and post the codes
Hi Tony,
I was thinking that if I got your sample and went to a paint shop, I could probably find out what the nearest matching code(s) is and post it here for others to use.
Let me know if you're cool with getting the sample prepared.
Cheers,
Chris

Green Frame Sample on it's way!
Thanks for your email Tony,
I'll keep my eye out for the postman on the recently repainted postie-bike!
When the sample arrives I'll try and get a code from Standox shop in Artarmon.
Cheers

Green Frame Paint Sample Arrived Today!
Hi Tony,
I just checked my mailbox on the way up to vote and there it was!
The familiar Australia Post padded bag which always seems to bring good things. My girlfriend, Anita, inisted on opening it - was dying to see the colour! Chicks...
I just wanted to thank you for going out of your way to help me with this one, as you didn't reply to my question about associated costs, you'll have to let me buy you a beer or three when we catch up.
Am I right in thinking you're based in Canberra? We will be heading down to visit relo's in the next few weeks.
I'll get down to the Standox shop sometime this week and see what they have to say about colour code matching. I'll post the results here soon.
Thanks a million Tony,

Green Frame Colour Codes: DuPont Recommendations
I visited the local STANDOX distributor in Artarmon and found an almost
identical colour match using Mazda 'Greece Green'. It is so close to the
sample Tony Hannagan sent me it's almost indetectable.
The DuPont Colour Lab sent me two formulae; one for the 'Basislack'
system the other for the 'Standohyd' system. The formatting below is
not too good, so you may wish to copy and paste the info into Word and
format it into columns more accurately. There are four columns in each formula
section, two in the specifications sections.
The formulae are as follows:

The info below was sent to me from Don Krumholz who got some higher-up at Dupont to check the above info for him and was told........
Both of the formulas sent by Don are archived. However the usage is
correct. Mazda 14 D was used in the US only in 1995 but in Europe
1995-1996. It is more recently being used in Japan in 2006. Below please
find the current formulas and let me know if you need anything else.
