S2 rear footpeg: what thread?

Post by cooperplace »

This is the bolt, part of the rear footpeg, that holds the muffler on. What thread is it? It looks like standard metric M12 but I've a standard nut of that size that won't screw on to the thread. If anyone knows I'd be grateful.

It would not surprise me to find an oddity of the older MHR/SS frames carried forward to the S2/Mille; on my 81 MHR this thread is UNF 7/16".

UNF 7/16, well fan my brow! I thought it might have been some weird Italian metric, like they used in the 60s. I will try UNF7/16.

Thank you my friend, much appreciated.

If 7/16* doesn't turn out to be right ...

Try M12x1.25. According to Phil Hitchcock, this thread was used in post 1982 twins.

Close.
I took it to my nuts and bolts guy today, who ID'd it as M12 x1.5, which is a fine metric thread -as opposed to coarse. I'd tried to get a M12x1.75 to fit.

As I remember reading in an article : Ducati sent a GT to the States to evaluate the bike. One of the (Berliners ?) remarks was about the rear footrest. They were changed on site and the bike was sent back to Italy. There Ducati just copied what was changed, including the (for Italian standards) thread.
Can't remember if 7/16 is used on other Ducatis (brainfade).
