Re: Intake Port alignment
Glad to help. My Darmah hasn't had any porting work and has got 32mm carbies and goes like stink on a high wind. If you give it to it you are flat out hanging on. My GTS860 (spinger) has got sport cams, 36mm carbies, racing pipe, etc, goes very sweet but not in the same league as the 900 desmo. My o...

Re: Intake Port alignment
everything metal is manufactured to an acceptable tolerance and with things like castings and machining operations only a few get checked as the manufacuring run goes along. If things look like they are slipping outside of acceptable tolerance levels changes are made to bring it back to what's 'acce...

Re: Less is more.
best thing I've read in a long time. Everyone should read it. If you don't understand it you probably never will. He really needs a chopped GTS though, the extra piston really lessens the danger of being run down by a nong in a massive financial millstone...

Re: '77 500 head gasket
I was very seriously considering doing just that to the '75 GTL I had, keep the original engine as a house ornament and put a 500-600cc Jap trail bike single in it's place. It would be just beautiful I reckon, all say how good the GTL handled, could only be better with a lighter engine and I've alwa...

Re: '77 500 head gasket
Hi Ducadini, thanks for that info, it all sounds like very worthwhile points, I will tell the old man to check out this thread, he can't see at the moment but will be able to soon. I understand what you mean about the bewilderment etc, I bought a '75 GTL500 (and a '72 Maico MC400, offered a job lot ...

Re: Where does the term Pantah come from
riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. There ya go, finally a real connection between the word and the tiger head. Trust the Italians to do something weird like that. You gotta love 'em. Sort of like a Triumph Tinkerbell or a Honda Pikachu, ha ha ha. All of a sudden A Ducati Darmah sounds pretty good. I'll never l...

Re: What type of oil should I use for my 1970 450 Scrambler
Having trouble finding 20W 40 motorcycle oil. I was told to use 10W 40 is this safe? I worked in an engine rebuilding shop for years, I have always known the golden rule of thumb for oil suitability to be: Roller big end- straight grade 50 Plain bearing big end- multi grade Roller bearing bottom en...

Re: Where does the term Pantah come from
so what does Darmah mean in English? I have always wondered about both names but think nowadays they are both just made up words. I suppose that's fair enough seeing both bikes were new things when they came out so might as well have had new words as names. In one way both names are better than Spor...

so the straight manifold I have found (but not seen yet, maybe tomorrow) must be a 750S job then?

Re: Dellorto problem...
I chased after the manifold I mentioned yesterday and asked a few questions and found out that there is only 32 and 40mm manifolds. 36mm carbies go on the same manifold as 32's as it turns out. I can't remember why I didn't keep my original manifolds when I did the swap deal for the 36's but there w...

Re: FAQ: clutch pushrod order info
hey Bob, my clutch used to be a real bastard when I first got the bike which is why I have mucked around with it so much. I think you're on exactly the right track with the idea that it's so hard to actually install the sprocket cover because there is too many bits in there (like you say someone has...

Re: Advice Required on fitting taper roller head bearing she
you know when a bearing shell is all the way in when the sound changes, ting ting ting tonk. It's unmistakeable, just don't have the radio on or a bitchin' woman around when you do it. Level with the frame isn't in, a bit further is. A brass drift is best but mild steel is fine (an inch round or so)...

Re: My bike runs on one cylinder
you mean a roundcase GT I suppose being from '74, so maybe by modern Ducati you mean electronic ignition like that found in the squarecases. if that's the case it could very well be the high and low speed pick ups. I have had my share of nightmares with my GTS pickups and had to change them a few ti...
