Re: Squish Clearance 74 750 GT
Ended up with 1.0 on the front and 1.15 on the rear. Bikes is running great, except it's leaking oil out of the vertical bevel tower at the very top. :( I did put a little silicone in there when I assembled it but it looks like I didn't use enough. Looks like the head has to come off. Oh well...

Re: 74 GT750 Valve guide seals
Just backing up what wdietz said. The bearings are dual row self alinging bearings that are meant to have some angular "play". I used SKF 1203 ETN9 bearings when I last replaced them. Numerous bearing manuafacturers supply equivalents - any bearing shop should be able to supply them. From...

Squish Clearance 74 750 GT
Hi folks,
Got my heads back, new pistons and newly bored cylinders.
Getting ready to reassemble the top end. I just wanted to get the squish clearances when I reassemble? I am using sport pistons.
Thanks,
Bernie

Perfect!!! The lower washer was not sliding over the bottom lip on the stem. I had to tap it home a little harder to get it to seat and everything snugged up nicely.

No I didn't remove the stem. I had the chance to measure the protrusion on someone else's 900ss and it was 12mm. I'll measure mine today.

Re: 74 750 GT 38mm Marzocchi forks
I'm not sure it moved but it seems that there is too much protruding. I had the forks completely disassembled and rebuilt them. When I was putting the lower part of the triple clamp back on the forks I tapped it into position with a rubber mallet. The washer and nut for the steering damper are way t...

Re: 74 750 GT 38mm Marzocchi forks
One more question. I had the front forks right off and disassembled when I rebuilt them. They needed a pretty good cleaning, One thing I notice now is that the centre shaft for the triple clamp seems to have slipped down a bit. I used a rubber mallet when 'tapping' the triple clamp back onto the for...

Re: 74 750 GT 38mm Marzocchi forks
How much preload is too much preload? I found a couple of spacers around 2.5 cm long at the top of my forks when I disassembled them. I'm wondering if the previous owner found the springs to be shot and went down this road as opposed to replacing them.

Ha!! It sure is..
With 30k miles new pistons are not unexpected though. I'm pretty sure Steve, sells a set here. I need 80mm first over.

Re: 74 GT750 Valve guide seals
Thanks for all the input. :-D The heads and barrels are in the hands of a competent bevel mechanic now. The guides in the head appear to have been home made and someone didn't get the interference fit quite right on a couple of them. So the work being done; new guides, new valves, machine the curren...

Re: inconsistent running on highway - Surging and failing
Also look at the vent on the gas cap. There was a home made gasket on mine that had no vent hole in it, so there was a bit of a vacuum in the tank when running for prolonged periods on the highway. This happened on mine and I opened the gas cap and you could hear the air rush in.
