Re: 860 Old Engine periodic head re-torque ??

I don't think safety wire holes have been drilled in the adjacent fins. Ah, you touch on another Ducati mystery  . Sometimes they are ... and sometimes they aren't. And rarely, if ever, on the back. By no means essential; but easy enuf done, especially during a wet and gloomy Portland winter...

Re: 860 Old Engine periodic head re-torque ??

My advice: leave them alone, Kara. They don't have a habit of loosening (I can see you've been around British Iron for too long ... :). You won't do any damage by retorqueing them ... but you won't necessarily do any good either :-) On the other hand, it IS a good idea to check the exhaust nuts from...

Re: 860gt best spark plug? Champions anyone?

Hi Craig What do you think of the projected tip versions of the same plug ? Some amongst us make great testimonial claims...like the bp6hs Cheers Kara "Solution looking for a problem"? Dunno - sorry. Others will have to respond. (I don't even know if there's enuf piston clearance ...)

Re: Smoking under acceleration.

<snip> And on that 150% oil pump : I don't remember if Kevin Bracken ran a original pump or uprated one, but there were signs of running without oil on the bigends (at high to very high revs) so I'm wondering if this pump isn't a bit overkill ? Been having much the same thought ... I'm no engine tu...

No need, Kara, altho' your choice ... :). Most people find that NGK B6HS do the job admirably.

(L88A in Champion, btw).

Re: Smoking under acceleration.

Blue smoke under acceleration is normally rings, sad to say, Andy ... But first check the engine breather is working. (I admit I don't understand why (or even how ...) you've fitted a K&N filter. The original system is perfectly adequate for its task ...). You could be pressurizing the crank cas...

Re: New owner 860 minimum rec. Rpms

Ok, you're entering into potentially turbulent waters here, Kara  . But ... Yes, it is generally thought best not to let these motors labour. The dogma goes, "It's not a **** Harley Davidson!" Now, is there any evidence of big-end bearing failure being directly caused by running a D...

Yes, Kara, no worries. Just slide a board or a lump of wood in between the jack and the sump.

Re: PHF32 Air Passage Question/ Kara

<snip> ... I am new to the PHF world. Well, they're not so bad, delivering both reasonable economy and performance. They do like to be set up right, but once done they remain remarkably stable. Watch especially for getting the float height right; and for simple things like making sure the choke pis...

Re: Bosch WR 8 AP spark plug issue

A while back, I remember posting a question about reducing the torque wrench setting when using anti-seize, versus the "dry" setting assumed by the author. Yes, strictly speaking you should/could, the critical question always being: "By how much?" Dunno ... How slippery is your ...

No worries - we all have the right to get things wrong from time to time.

Don't forget to put some Coppaslip on the plug threads, btw. Makes life easier when you need to spin them out :-D

Re: PHF32A Needle jet stuck in body

I can't seem to unscrew the AB265 jet via a reasonable amount of force. I don't want to snap it off ! Hi (again :) ) Kara, Honestly, rather than force it, I'd leave it. It's an atomiser which comes into operation after around ¼ of the slide movement. They don't regularly wear or nuttin'; so on this...

Hi Kara and welcome to the Forum, <snip>The hole on the right seems hard to pass air or solvent through and this is true on both carbs. Where does this passage go? what does it do? Ah! <snip> The original Champion L88As are no longer made, so I am at a loss on what to do. Hi Richard, Personally ... :) Just fit NGKs - B6HS, to be precise. It's the equivalent of the old Champion L88A and I've been doing it for the last 40-odd years ... :-D All the best Craig NGK.jpg

Re: SKF Sprag bearing

Interesting, Steve - thanks for the post. The original system was always fatally flawed, so good on Brook for starting from scratch and coming up with something more suited to the job.

Touch wood, mine is still operational. But 'never say never' ...
