Re: Hello from Bothell WA - 66 Ducati 250 Scrambler

Hi Erik and welcome to the Forum. Your neighbor did well. The bike looks to be in very good condition. Most/many of these narrow-case Scramblers have been severely abused over the years ... It's quite an uncommon machine. Also called the "250 Motocross" in some Ducati literature of the tim...

Re: Wiring Trispark regulator on 750 GT

<sniP> Looking at the diagrams it seems as if on the original regulator, the connector to the red wire is simply a pass through to the + terminal of the battery and doesn’t actually do anything within the regulator itself. Correct. When using a modern reg/rec, you may have to isolate this cable. Bu...

Re: Wiring Trispark regulator on 750 GT

Hmmm. As I understand it, because the AC power outputs of the original two and three wire alternators are not the same, they require different regulator-rectifiers. Or, to be strictly accurate, it's actually the other way round: the early reg-recs do the rectification in a different way to the later...

Re: New Member in Alberta Canada

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

Enjoy the Darmah. Just a thought: you might want to think twice about deleting the electric boot. It's a much better designed and performing item than the GTS engineering disaster  , and they do have their uses, not least when touring.

Re: Adjust chain Darmah

What do you mean by, "it tightens to a certain point then loosens". What loosens? Do you mean that you can rotate the cam to a point where the chain goes tight, and then if you continue to turn the cam, the chain goes loose again? If so, that's in the nature of a cam. It's what a cam does!...

Please support This Place <snip> I would if I wasn't on the wrong side of the planet and the EU hadn't started clamping down on collecting all VAT and duties on even the smallest consignments. The shipping companies are having a field day charging collection fees. $7.29 would become $30+. 'Fraid th...

Re: 250 Mk3 reborn - Exhaust Seal?

The Real Thing is a U-shaped ring of aluminium with an insulating filler. Plenty of pictures out there on Tinternet, for example at Ducati Vintage Store or Lacey Ducati. Here's one: Exhaust gasket.jpg But no reason not to use a hollow copper ring is you so wish. I see that's what Eurojamb offer: Exh...

A supplement to my previous message ...

Just found this in Ian Falloon's "Original Ducati Sport and Super Sport".

So pretty much the same, just a smaller idle.

Re: 900 SS 40MM main jet size

These are the PHM40 B carbs, yes? In which case, your best reference is going to be the 1981 version of the owner's handbook. Because, unless I am mistaken, there wasn't a parts book issued for the 1981 SS, only for the earlier 1979-80 model which was fitted with PHM40 A carbs. Unfortunately, I don'...

Re: 900 GTE Front tire removal

IME, it's always easier if you take the calipers off.

(If you do this, don't let them hang by their hoses. Get a piece of string, thread it thru one of the bolt holes and then tie it off somewhere convenient).

Re: Darmah red & white

Hi Stew, FWIW: Ducati's paint supplier at the time was a company called Lechler (still in existence, btw). Colour classification systems such as are widespread today, for example Pantone or RAL, were not used by Lechler. Lechler's own colour code for the red and white Darmahs are: Red: DUC A12 White...

They should go straight on, Miguel, but to be sure, why not just ask Ducati Vintage Store?

Maurizio and Ombretta are great people, always willing to help.

Ciao

Re: Restoration almost complete. Won’t start

<snip> Also, any tips on getting the center stand spring on? I’ve already stretched one out of shape trying to get it on. Simples. Get a pile of simple, plain washers and insert them, one by one, between the coils of the spring. The more you put in, the longer the spring becomes. When it's the leng...
