Re: 860 GT mystery repair
A bit of primer T or Wax and grease remover and a blast of compressed air would sort out any oil weeps for epoxy prep if bike was together. You wouldn't want to let it get too dirty before you dealt with it though. I'd be interested if it leaked or not. Best scenario really is if is doesn't leak and...

Re: 860 GT mystery repair
Araldite has been around for a long time and is used in the small aircraft industry to repair leaking gaskets in aeroplane crankcases to save huge time and money stripping engines to fix an oil weep. Having said that, it is very old school, there would be a lot of different options nowadays when it ...

Re: 860 GT mystery repair
my GTS had a lot wrong with it when I bought it in the late eighties but the worst was an oil leak in the front head on the left side that just couldn't be fixed no matter what I did. It was bad enough to make you disappear in a cloud of smoke at the lights with the oil on the hot pipe. I had that b...

Re: Rewiring a 900GTS
there's not much nowadays you can honestly vouch for but that particular guy doing that particular job on that particular kind of bike, I would have been a bastard to not at least let you know his name. I'm not sure he would have time to hit Bondi, he's in too much demand round here but you can to a...

Re: Rewiring a 900GTS
there is a guy up here in the Maryborough area that has re-wired the majority of old bikes in this entire area, he is a mobile bike mechanic and can fix absolutely anything but his speciality is rewiring Ducati bevels. He does a beautiful job at a very reasonable price with the least amount of wires...

Re: SSD rear intake/inlet manifiold
32mm and 36mm manifolds are the same, the straight rear ones in that size are off roundcase 750's. I had a cut and shut rear manifold on my GTS when it had original 32's on, then swapped carbs and manifolds for 36's including curved rear manifold. I am going to do a cut and shut though as I want to ...

Re: Marzoochi Shocks Garage sale find
if the rods are good and they don't leak oil and the damping works the last thing you want to do is pull them apart. Just take the springs off and mask up the bits you dont want to paint. Working Stradas for ten bucks, buy of the century........

Re: Marzoochi Shocks Garage sale find
yep they're Stradas. The most common way for them to be mounted is rod up and the reservoir to the rear but they can be mounted any way round and they will work the same. They are rebuildable but it's a good trick. You have to use exactly the right amount of oil when you put them back together and f...

Re: Swing arm pivot shaft, bronze bushes
the galling is from no grease which you've probably already worked out. The easiest way to fix it permanently is to put a grease nipple in halfway along the swingarm pointing straight down towards the ground so you can just lay under the bike with a greasegun and give it a big drink of grease. Ducat...

Re: 860GT head nut wrench and torque setting
that's an interesting thing but most torque wrenches are out by a bit or a lot anyway (you'd be surprised by how much sometimes) and you can only rely on their accuracy by calibrating them on a special tool. You've only got to drop it once and it can be out. Most people couldn't swear they know the ...

Re: Low flying spaghetti jets
just beautiful. Both of these bikes are my idea of motorcycle art. Both are a bit different to my vision of it though which is just another reason I see it as an artform, customising is so personal. Like you not liking the discs and pegs. Both bikes have got things I don't like much either but they ...

Re: 860GT head nut wrench and torque setting
I cut the end off an open ended spanner and welded a socket to it so you end up with a tool as short as possible (about 40mm long) to minimise the effect on torque reading. You do have to grind the sides of the spanner down to fit in the limited space but with a bit of patience with a hammer and a f...

Re: Low flying spaghetti jets
Very interesting links Steve, thanks for posting them. Astonishing really, at the Guggenheim no less. I've always thought of bikes as an artistic medium, right back to when I was a kid. I have been thinking a lot about what was put forward as an artistic exhibit in the links. A completely different ...

as art. Not for sale though so sort of a prop as well. I just figure since I put all the same level of intense energy and intent into fixing and modifying ny bikes thay should be in my exhibitions too. I've had two solo exhibitions so far, the first one had my GTS in the middle of the room, the seco...
