Re: Tab washer bender tool

Yeah, Guido would either have done it with his bare hands, or have had a hired hand who would have done so. As for your other comment, I found the ultimate bore-specific fitting tool from Summit Racing; if you want details, please let me know, and I will gather the info and send it to you. Price was...

Re: Tab washer bender tool

Got it; thank you.

Tried both my channel locks and one of my Vise Grips, and they will both fit, so that's a relief.

Richard

Re: Tab washer bender tool

Yeah, Thanks, Craig, That idea had popped up in the cobwebs of my brain as well. I was just trying to avoid putting a lot of torque on the facet of the nut, since the bending tools I have seen have a "pin" that centers on the shaft that the nut is screwed onto, thereby avoiding said torque. But, I'l...

Tab washer bender tool

Hi All, Getting ready to re-mount the timing wheel and gear on the crankshaft on my 860GT, am looking for a source for a good washer bending tool. Most I see on the market are for electrical applications, and I don't believe that they are up to the level of "robustness" necessary on the crankshaft n...

coat exhaust pipes?

Hi Good Folks and fellow Bevelheads, Later on in my resto, I am installing new exhaust system I purchased through Steve from Keihin in the U.K. I would like to do what I can to mitigate the inevitable blueing on the pipes near the cylinder heads. I have heard that pipes can be coated on the inside t...

Re: 860GT intake manifold: stuck

Gentlemen:

Thanks to you both. I shall do as recommended.

Last question here, hopefully:

Can the collar/ring, Ducati part number 0755.27.527 be spread enough to go over the lip on the carb without damaging it? It doesn't seem to be designed for much spreading.

Best Regards to all,
Richard

Re: 860GT intake manifold: stuck

Got the clamp to move; stupid me, I didn't think to spread slightly.

Still, the spacer/reducer will still not move; maybe I should just work elsewhere.

Comments?

860GT intake manifold: stuck

Gentlemen: Whilst awaiting the rework of rockers and cam, I am cleaning up various bits, and am trying without success to separate the carb and intake manifold. The coupling ring, with screw and nut removed, does not move. I am guessing that the reducer fitting has become bonded to the carb, but wit...

Re: Ducati 860 GT Bevel gear lash

Thanks kindly for the info, as always.

Pls let me know about the cam; with Megacycles it's likely going to be a while before I hear from them.

Richard

Ducati 860 GT Bevel gear lash

Hi Folks, The old man is groping in the dark again: I am looking for, but not finding, the proper range of lash at the bevel gears on the head. I am likely going to have a new cam and new bevel housing gaskets, thus the gear lash will likely change. New cam is potential, as I am sending my old horiz...

Re: Valve guide choice

Thanks, Craig, You and your colleagues are a wealth of info and experience, and have saved my bacon numerous times. I have sent my rockers off to Megacycle in San Rafael, California to be refurbished with stellite et al. They were very cordial, said that they do a lot of this type of Ducati business...

Re: Valve guide choice

Youze guize are great! God Bless you all! The world is a better place for your knowledge, and we yanks appreciate that. Looking at Nigel's stock, he stocks three lengths, and I guess that I would have to remove the old guide to measure its length, then go from there; that's a bit confusing to me, es...

Valve guide choice

I know, this argument has gone on a long time, and here I am revisiting it. As I have just found terminal wear on the now (ovoid) exhaust valve guide, I am faced with the decision on which type of guide to replace with: iron or bronze. Since the engine (#851539) came with bronze guides, and since th...
