Re: Slides and ramps.

Could not get the new 60/1 slides to lift on the idle screws, was thinking Steve 's prediction was right, then noticed that the DPO had fitted stainless idle screws, wrongly made with sharp long points and not enough shank before the threads, a bit of hand file work and thats sorted.Screws are a bit...

Accelerator pump non return valve test

After a thorough clean and new seals and gaskets my 32 's are looking good. The only thing , to cause concern is my total inability to blow through the non return valves,no amount of huffing and sucking has any effect, although they lift with the lightest touch of a probe. Anyone checked these ?.

Re: Float levels

On SSi carbs the fuel level is checked with a tube and a datum, is there a datum for PHF carbs? I'm tempted to set the level 2 or 3 mm below the point where flooding occurs. Has anyone used this method?.

Re: Slides and ramps.

No reliable idle so the carbs will be cleaned in an ultrasound bath tomorrow, sorting out the tiny "O" rings is fun as there does not appear to be any info on these.

Re: Hailwoods TT motor failure.

HI Peter, I would have expected overreving to bring ring, piston, big end or rod failure, the desmo gear should have been safe to the breathing limits of the motor.

rear brake cable gts

for some reason my rear brake light is always on. I've had it to bits and the switch seems to be working fine and no amount of fidling with adjustment helps. I'm wondering if the outer sheath is too long and applying pressure which is operating the switch. Is there a specified length?

Hailwoods TT motor failure.

Its a well known fact that the bevel gear failed as Mike won the race. Did we ever find out what caused this?. When you consider that the Desmo set up was designed to reduce the loadings and these motors have competed in endurance racing with much success its a bit odd .Did the crank shims fail and ...

Re: outbd crank support bearing

Mine was very tight to get out, don't leave out the big washer between the case and bearing (its all that stops the big end oil escapeing through the bearing straight into the sump) ,not sure a rubber sealed bearing is as secure. Use both? Don't loose the "O" ring from between the cover and gasket ....

Re: Slides and ramps.

Hi Steve and Ray, A mate has just machined the stops ramps leaving them slightly thicker than std which allows a bit more metal for wear, the slides fit perfectly all for the cost of a packet of fags!!,i will check out the springs situation. I will let you know how they perform although i have never...

Re: Slides and ramps.

Thanks Ray, I get the picture!, Having fun replacing the "o" rings and seals, lots of small stuff all very similar but no sizes to work out which is right, not impossible if the old ones are in fair nick, but mine have dissintegrated. I did get the thing running after a fashion ,lots of pops and bang...

Re: Slides and ramps.

Slides are not handed but are for later carbs and need a little mod to fit, Think i must be stupid, can't see where the pump sprays but managing to get well wet!!, sprays from the brass tube near the bell mouth?, Carb needs working over full range of throttle? Pump piston is set back from slide barr...

Re: Slides and ramps.

HI RAy, the 60 slides are for a later carb and need a little machining of the screw ramps to clear the base to drop right down. The diaphrams look sound if a little baggy, can the pump be tested with the carb off the bike?

Re: Slides and ramps.

I bought the pair of 60/1 slides that were on E-Bay, and am fitting them, no idea if they will improve anything as i have not ridden the bike at all. Whats the best method of checking the pump output?.Have to say i like Ray's" empherical" attitude!, I'm a bit like that myself and get a bit grumpy if...
